The Department of Government Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), University of Riau held an Internship activity for even semester students of the 2024/2025 Academic Year on April 28, 2025. This activity is a bridge between the theories learned in college and real practices in the world of work, as well as a tangible manifestation of the implementation of cooperation between the Department of Government Sciences FISIP University of Riau with various strategic partners.

This Internship Program is designed to provide students with valuable practical experience, equip them with real skills, and increase the relevance of the curriculum to the dynamics of the needs of the world of work. The students involved in this internship come from various concentrations, reflecting the richness of the field of government science, namely Bureaucracy, Village Government (Pemdes), Legislative, Election Governance (TKP), and Policy and Institutional Analysis (AKK).

During the Internship period, students receive intensive guidance from lecturers who are competent in their fields. Supervisors play a crucial role in directing, monitoring, and evaluating student internship activities, ensuring that each student gets an optimal learning experience according to their respective concentrations.

The diversity of concentrations is reflected in the variety of student internship locations. This shows the breadth of the cooperation network of the Department of Government Sciences, FISIP, University of Riau with various strategic partners. Here are some examples of Internship student placements:

  • Bureaucratic Concentration: Students go directly to various government agencies, such as the Governor's Office (People's Welfare Bureau), the Riau Provincial Secretariat Organization Bureau, the Pekanbaru City Education Office, the Riau Provincial Regional Development Planning Agency, the Riau Provincial Communication, Information and Statistics Office, the Riau Provincial Inspectorate, the Riau Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office, the Riau Province Food, Food Crops and Horticulture Office,  Tuah Madani District, Riau Provincial Library and Archives Office, One-Stop Investment and Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP), National Land Agency, Riau Provincial Regional Revenue Agency, and Riau Provincial Community and Village Empowerment Office.
  • Village Government Concentration (Pemdes): Students apply village government knowledge in the field by being placed in Karya Indah Village, Kubang Raya Village, Rimbo Panjang Village, and Kualu Nenas Village.
  • Legislative Concentration: Students delve into the intricacies of legislation by carrying out Internships at the Pekanbaru City DPRD Office and the Pekanbaru Provincial DPRD.
  • Concentration in Election Governance (TKP): Students learn about the implementation of elections at the Pekanbaru City KPU and the Riau Provincial KPU.
  • Policy and Institutional Analysis (AKK) Concentration: Students hone their policy analysis skills at the Riau Provincial Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Office, the Riau Provincial Environment and Forestry Service, and the Indonesian Ombudsman for Riau Province.

Dr. Muchid, S.Sos, M.Phil, Head of the Department of Government Science, FISIP, University of Riau, emphasized the importance of this Internship program in preparing graduates who are competent and ready to face the challenges of the world of work. "We in the Department of Government Science are committed to providing relevant and applicable education. Internship is one form of this commitment. Through this program, students not only gain practical experience, but also build professional networks and hone skills that are needed in the field," said Dr. Muchid.

This Internship activity is not just an academic formality, but an important investment in human resource development. Through this program, the Department of Government Sciences, FISIP, University of Riau not only equips students with theoretical knowledge, but also practical experience that is relevant to the needs of the world of work, as well as strengthening synergy with strategic partners.
