Pekanbaru – The Department of Government Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Riau is again carrying out an internship program in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. This program is based on the Decree of the Rector of the University of Riau Number 1693/UN19/KPT/2021 concerning the Curriculum of the Government Science Study Program of the Strata One (S-1) Program.
In the 2024/2025 academic year, students in the 4th (fourth) semester of the 2023 batch are required to take part in an internship program with a weight of 2 credits. This program aims to provide students with direct experience in the world of work in accordance with their scientific fields. Through internships, students are expected to be able to apply, practice, and develop the knowledge that has been acquired during lectures.
Students who take part in the internship program will be placed in various institutions according to the concentration that has been chosen in the Government Science study program. There are five concentrations offered, namely:
- Bureaucratic Concentration;
- Concentration of Village Government;
- Legislative Concentration;
- Concentration on Election Governance; and
- Concentration in Policy and Institutional Analysis.
This internship program provides an opportunity for students to understand firsthand the dynamics and challenges that exist in the world of work. With this experience, students are expected to be better prepared to face the professional world after completing their studies at the University of Riau.
The internship is carried out by referring to the guidelines or SOPs for internship activities that have been set by the Department of Government Science, University of Riau. With clear standards, this program is expected to run effectively and provide maximum benefits for students and the institution where they intern.
Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP, M.Si, as Acting Head of the Department of Government Science, University of Riau, said that this activity is part of the academic commitment in preparing graduates who are competent and ready to compete in the world of work. "This internship program is very important because it provides students with practical experience that not only improves their academic understanding but also their professional skills," he said.
With this internship program, it is hoped that students can strengthen their analytical, communication, and managerial skills according to the concentration they choose. This program is also a place for students to build a professional network that can be beneficial for their future careers.
The Department of Government Science, University of Riau continues to strive to improve the quality of education and the relevance of the curriculum to the world of work. This internship program is one of the strategic efforts in bridging the gap between theory and practice in the field.
